I have exercised pretty consistently for the last 9 or so years, but almost all of that has been gym-based work. I love the gym and cardio exercise of any sort seems to work as a great de-stressor for me, but since late-2008 I have got into running and realised that that is my true exericse love
I only wish I’d discovered it sooner!
At the start of 2009, I set an intermediate goal of running 10km in an hour, with the subsequent goal of running 12km in an hour. At the time of setting those goals, I was only able to run about 4km straight, in about 20-25mins. Note. As of April 2009 I have managed to run 10km straight – once twice. It took me an hour so I figure I’m part-way to my ultimate goal.
In this page, I will log my running time each week. Usually I do a few short runs (10 to 15mins) each week at the gym, mixed in with other cardio work (cross-trainer, bike and/or rower), and a longer run outside. Sometimes I manage 2 outdoor runs, sometimes I run longer at the gym; it varies quite a lot. I never run everyday and on the days I don’t runI do other gym-base cardio work, or occasionally go for a bike ride outdoors.
I always stretch after cardio exercise of any sort, and try to be extra attentive if I’ve run. I also try and do some strength work each day, although it’s usually only 10mins or so.
In the lead up to starting this record, my weekly running totals looked like this:
